Creative Technology is sometimes a trip down memory lane.
With so many intelligent and clever people within our touchpoints, we found this clip; Play House is an automata that mechanically computes and performs hooky and hypnotic acid house.
A sequence of LEGO gears, levers and latches move to mutate riffs and rhythm patterns.
Motions are played out in real-time on analogue drums and synthesisers from the halcyon days of 1980s dance music, while the machine gradually shifts the timbre and space of the sound.
With the process and function laid bare one can pick apart the interactions driving the score, seeing sound as it changes in sculpture – or simply rocking out to some fruity acid.
This clip caught our attention after we were delivered a very large box of Lego.
We started building shapes to settle our thought process and look for inspiration and ideas.
Turn up the volume to ’11’, sit back and enjoy.
As of 2021, Lego was the largest toy company in the world. The company’s flagship product, Lego, consists of variously coloured interlocking plastic bricks accompanying an array of gears, figurines called mini-figures, and various other parts.
Lego pieces can be assembled and connected in many ways to construct objects, including vehicles, buildings, and working robots. Anything constructed can be taken apart again, and the pieces reused to make new things.
