Amy Winehouse Film

Amy Winehouse Film – The girl behind the name has been directed by the team that brought ‘SENNA‘.

Amy Jade Winehouse (14 September 1983 – 23 July 2011) was an English singer and songwriter known for her deep vocals and her eclectic mix of musical genres, including soul sometimes labelled as blue-eyed soul, rhythm and blues, jazz and reggae.

Amy Winehouse’s 2003 debut album, Frank, was a critical success in the UK and was nominated for the Mercury Prize.

Amy is a 2015 British documentary film directed by Asif Kapadia and produced by James Gay-Rees.

The film covers British singer-songwriter Amy Winehouse’s life and her struggle with substance abuse, both before and after her career blossomed, which eventually caused her death.

In February 2015, a teaser trailer based on the life of Winehouse debuted at a pre- Grammys event. David Joseph, CEO of Universal Music UK, announced that the documentary titled Amy would be released later that year.

He further stated:

“About two years ago we decided to make a movie about her – her career and her life. It’s a very complicated and tender movie. It tackles lots of things about family and media, fame, addiction, but most importantly, it captures the very heart of what she was about, which is an amazing person and a true musical genius.”

This will surely lay to rest the story of Amy Winehouse – her music, her life, her story.

The New Amy Winehouse Film – ‘Back to Black’

Back to Black is an upcoming biographical drama centred on the life of the renowned British singer-songwriter Amy Winehouse, with Marisa Abela portraying the iconic artist.

The film, directed by Sam Taylor-Johnson and scripted by Matt Greenhalgh, boasts a stellar cast including Jack O’Connell, Eddie Marsan, and Lesley Manville.

Since Winehouse’s passing in 2011, various filmmakers have endeavoured to bring her story to the screen, yet none managed to materialise.

However, in 2018, Winehouse’s estate revealed a significant development: a film chronicling her life and achievements was in the works.

Fast forward to July 2022, StudioCanal greenlit the project, and filming commenced in London, spanning from January to April 2023.

Set for release by StudioCanal in the United Kingdom on April 12, 2024, and by Focus Features in the United States on May 17, 2024, Back to Black is poised to offer audiences a poignant portrayal of Winehouse’s captivating journey and indelible impact on music and culture.

We are off to see this, we just love her music. Wouldn’t it be great if some of her material was discovered, mastered and released – could this happen?
