The Line in Saudi Arabia - design and internet

The Line in Saudi Arabia

The Line in Saudi Arabia is a proposed smart linear city, which is being developed and built in a region called, Neom, Tabuk, designed to have no cars, streets or carbon emissions.

This enormous construction will be known as a Long City, measuring 110 miles, which Saudi Arabia claims will create a workforce of close to 400,000 jobs adding nearly $50bn to the country’s GDP.

The Line is planned to be the first development in Neom, a $500bn project. The city’s plans anticipate a population of 9 million inhabitants.

The structure will be 100% renewable energy and housed within an elegant mirrored glass facade.

Drone footage is released

Drone footage reveals The Line megacity under construction in Saudi Arabia. In the video, numerous excavators can be seen digging a wide linear trench in the desert.

Within the trench, foundations for the city, which is planned to be 170 kilometres long, are expected to be built.

The future of urban living

The Line in Saudi Arabia is a civilizational revolution that puts humans first, providing an unprecedented urban living experience while preserving the surrounding nature.

It redefines the concept of urban development and what cities of the future should look like.

THE LINE | The City of the Future

For reference, “THE LINE” is a mega-project proposed by Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman as part of the broader “Neom” development initiative.

Neom is intended to be a $500 billion mega-city development in the northwest of Saudi Arabia, stretching to the borders of Jordan and Egypt.

The concept of “THE LINE” is certainly ambitious and represents an exciting vision for the future of urban development.

However, like all large-scale infrastructure projects, its successful realisation will depend on various factors including economic, technological, and political dynamics.

Some key points about THE LINE in Saudi Arabia

Concept: “THE LINE” is envisioned as a linear city stretching over 170 kilometres.

It is designed to be a hub of innovation, technology, and a template for how future cities can be built.

Car-free: One of the most ambitious promises of “THE LINE” is that it will be completely free of cars and traditional streets.

Instead, the city is designed to prioritize pedestrians, with high-speed transit and autonomous vehicles operating in underground layers.

Sustainable Design: The development claims it will be powered entirely by clean energy, making it a zero-emissions city. The city’s design emphasises integrating with nature rather than displacing it.

Economic Development: “THE LINE” is expected to contribute significantly to the Saudi economy, creating jobs and serving as a model for future development in the kingdom and potentially the world.

Living and Working: The city is designed so that all essential services, like schools, medical clinics, leisure facilities, and green spaces, are within a five-minute walk.

The aim is to enhance the quality of life for its residents.

AI Integration: Artificial Intelligence will play a significant role in the city’s infrastructure, ensuring efficient energy use, facilitating transportation, and providing various services to the residents.

Part of Vision 2030: THE LINE is part of Saudi Arabia’s “Vision 2030”, a strategic framework to reduce Saudi Arabia’s dependence on oil, diversify its economy, and develop public service sectors like health, education, infrastructure, recreation, and tourism.
