There are many benefits to going online. The Internet: There are four main ways of using the Internet

1. Access the web: or its other name, the 'world-wide-web' is made up of different pages called 'websites'. When you logon or start the Internet, your computer will allow you to look at websites from anywhere in the world. there is a lot to explore!
2. Sending and receiving emails: or its other name, 'electronic mail' is a way for one internet user to send a message to another user; the modern equivalent of a handwritten letter. You can also add 'attachments' too.
3. Online Chat: People 'chat' to each other over the internet, either individually or in groups. This can be carried out message boards. People can also stay in touch with hundreds of friends through 'social networking' websites such as Facebook and Myspace where users can share what's going on in their life.
4. Streaming: The internet is a great place to listen to music or watch videos. Radio stations broadcast live on the Internet so you can listen on your computer. 

Other ways to access the Internet: You don't have to have computer access and home broadband connection to access the Internet, other ways include...

1. Mobile Phone: - nowadays most of us have phones that connect to the Internet, the most popular model is the Apple iPhone
2. At a library: Most libraries have Internet access
3. Internet Cafes: You can a pay a fee to get Internet access on a computer. Become a member of your local library to gain advantage of free access to the web
4. Wi-fi: This is an access point where you can connect to the Internet without a wired connection. If you have a laptop there are now many places such as cafes, public buildings and trains where you can connect to the Internet.
